Frostbite

Minnesota Frostbite is a member league of the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA). Our young athletes are all genders, ages 7-17 (including those who turn 18 mid-season), and various skating experience levels. The Frostbites learn roller derby skills and all about gameplay, with lots of teambuilding and fun activities built in. The Frostbites program is split into age and skill appropriate levels which include:

  • Frosty Tots: Learn to Skate (ages 7-9)
Learn to skate with appropriate safety gear. Our coaches bring the fun and passion for play!
  • Level 1: No Contact (ages 10-17)
Beginner level skaters learn safe skating skills, including falling and stopping. We teach the rules of roller derby but skaters are not allowed to make intentional contact with other skaters.
  • Level 2: Light Contact (ages 10-17)
Intermediate level roller derby is played using leaning/driving contact. Skaters are allowed to make controlled contact to push and block other skaters but are prohibited from hitting other skaters with force. Skaters are eligible to participate in non-competitive mixers both home and away.
  • Level 3: Full Contact (ages 10-17)
Advanced roller derby is played at the same level as adult roller derby. Legal contact is determined by The Rules of Flat Track Roller Derby, JRDA Edition. Skaters participate in mixers and competitive bouts both home and away.
