LEARN ROLLER DERBY WITH THE WINDCHILL
Minnesota Roller Derby invites anyone over the age of 18 who is gender expansive or identifies as a woman to join our league either through our transfer process or as a member of our Windchill Program. Whether you are brand new to roller derby or have been training and playing in the past, our Windchill program is the best way for new and experienced skaters to increase their skills until they are ready for full-contact competition, at which point they may be invited to skate with another team. This is also a place for anyone who wants to participate in roller derby recreationally to play the sport with a lower commitment level than our other competitive teams.
If you have questions about requirements or would like to be added to our wait list, please feel free to email windchill@mnrollerderby.com
FROSTBITE
Minnesota Frostbite is a member league of the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA). Our young athletes are all genders, ages 7-17 (including those who turn 18 mid-season), and various skating experience levels. The Frostbites learn roller derby skills and all about gameplay, with lots of teambuilding and fun activities built in. Our mission is to support young athletes in developing their roller derby, teamwork, and leadership skills in a supportive and empowering environment.
For information about joining, season and practice schedules, and other questions about the Minnesota Frostbite program, please email frostbite@mnrollerderby.com.
TRANSFERS
Minnesota Roller Derby welcomes skaters from other leagues provided that they meet a few conditions. This is a distilled version of our full transfer skater policy; for full details, please fill out our Transfer Inquiry Form.
Transfer skaters may join MNRD at any time with approval of the Transfer Placement committee. For home team consideration, transfers must complete the following requirements before the pre-season or mid-season draft. Transfer skaters can be drafted to travel teams, including All-Stars at any time during the year.
General Transfer Requirements:
- Letter of recommendation from captain, head ref, or coach that exhibits good standing with their previous league. (If you are unable to obtain this documentation, please email transfers@mnrollerderby.com as your transfer request may still be considered.)
- Must have been an active member of a league (need not be a WFTDA league) within the last 6 months for at least 6 months.
- Must resign from their former league before being considered for transfer.
- Must meet practice requirements for four weeks prior to the first bout once drafted to a team.
- Must skate a trial period of eight practices over three months.
For any questions regarding transferring to Minnesota Roller Derby, please email transfers@mnrollerderby.com.
