8-Bit Hits Bout Recap

Maul Rats vs. Roller Vortex

The first bout of the night pitted the Season 20 champion Maul Rats against the Roller Vortex, who looked to improve to 2-0 this season. Wheelie Nelson opened the bout with a 3-0 jam for the Vortex, then Lexi Cuter quickly scored 8 more to extend the lead. Gams answered with the first lead jam for the Maul Rats, but she struggled on her scoring pass and called off the jam without scoring any points. The Maul Rats finally got on the board in the following jam, as an apex jump by Twisted Transistor scored 4 points and cut the deficit to 11-4. Battlerina answered with 2 for the Vortex before Wheelie Nelson added 2 more, but a hard hit on the outside by Killer Bea prevented Wheelie Nelson from scoring any more points. At this point, the Vortex led 15-4.

Lexi Cuter raced out to another lead jam for the Roller Vortex before Gams was penalized, giving the Vortex the bout’s first power jam. Lexi Cuter scored 15 points, doubling the Vortex total, while Gams was penalized again and had to start the next jam in the box. Lefse 4 Dead took advantage of the power start, scoring 12 to bring the Vortex lead up to a whopping 42-4. Twisted Transistor then got a quick lead and stopped the run, but she only managed a single point. A physical jam followed, with both jammers struggling to get through the pack, and although BooBoo secured lead for the Maul Rats, she was forced to call off the jam without scoring.

The next jam was just as physical, as it took R.I.P.unzel 49 seconds to get out of the pack and secure lead for the Vortex, but she was rewarded by a power jam courtesy of a Crashy Go Lucky penalty. R.I.P.unzel scored 6 points, bringing the score to 48-5. Twisted Transistor then gave the Rats a lead jam, but the team was once again held scoreless after she wiped out on an apex jump attempt. Lefse 4 Dead responded with 8 points for the Roller Vortex, then a quick 4 by Wheelie Nelson extended their lead to 60-5. R.I.P.unzel gave the Vortex another lead jam after that, but she was outscored 5-3 by Crashy Go Lucky, finally putting the Maul Rats into double-digit territory. The jam, which occurred with under 5 minutes left in the half, was also the first jam of the night where both teams scored points.

Lexi Cuter followed with the fourth straight Vortex lead as Sew Dangerous – who received a star pass from Twisted Transistor – was penalized, giving Lexi Cuter a power jam. She delivered, scoring 20 to take the Vortex lead up to 73 points, but she was penalized at the end of the jam. That gave BooBoo a power jam for the Maul Rats, and she scored 8 points for the largest Maul Rat jam of the half. In the next jam, Battlerina got through the pack before Gams, but Gams was awarded lead jammer status. The two split the jam 8-8, leaving the total score 93-26 in favor of the Vortex at halftime.

The first jam of the second half matched up each team’s best jammer of the night, as Lexi Cuter opposed Twisted Transistor. It was Lexi Cuter who got the better of the jam, as she scored 3 without reply to extend the Vortex lead back to 70 points. BooBoo answered with a lead jam for the Maul Rats, but it took her a while to make her initial pass, and she was held to a single point. In the next jam, Crashy Go Lucky was the first jammer to emerge from the pack, but she was called for a track cut, giving Wheelie Nelson a power jam. Soon, it was Wheelie Nelson’s turn to enter the box, and after a two-minute jam, the jammers finished deadlocked 8-8.

Twisted Transistor scored 4 points in the following jam – giving the Maul Rats their longest scoring streak of the night, at 3 jams in a row – but Battlerina canceled that out with 4 quick points in the next jam. 3 points by Wheelie Nelson in the next jam gave the Roller Vortex a 111-39 lead, then Lefse 4 Dead added 4 more quick points. In that same jam, Twisted Transistor scored 2, but was forced to begin the following jam in the box. Once again, Lexi Cuter took advantage of the opportunity, scoring 10 to take the Vortex lead over 80 for the first time. A 4-4 jam between Crashy Go Lucky and R.I.P.unzel, followed by a scoreless one for Gams and Lefse 4 Dead, meant the Vortex lead still stood at 84 points.

BooBoo responded with a positive jam for the Maul Rats, scoring 7 while Wheelie Nelson struggled to get through the pack. However, Wheelie Nelson passed the star to Annaconda, who scored 4 to keep the Vortex lead over 80. Twisted Transistor then gave the Maul Rats another lead jam, and she completed what she thought was a scoring pass before trying to call off the jam. However, she was assessed a track cut, and after standing on the track in confusion after she couldn’t call off the jam, she was given another penalty for failing to leave the track immediately after being penalized. That gave Battlerina a rare 1-minute power jam, and she used the opportunity to score 7 points and extend the lead to 140-52.

Crashy Go Lucky secured lead jammer for the Maul Rats in the next jam, but she was eventually penalized, giving R.I.P.unzel a power jam. R.I.P.unzel scored 12 points, but 11 for Crashy Go Lucky prevented her from giving the Vortex a triple-digit lead. Instead, that honor fell to Lexi Cuter, who scored 12 unanswered in the next jam to put the Vortex up 164-63. Wheelie Nelson and BooBoo split the next jam 4-4, then two unceremonious scoreless jams closed the bout, bringing the final score to 168-67. It was the first 100-point win for any of the current home teams, while Lexi Cuter outscored the Maul Rats by herself with 68 points.

Bodies of Water vs. Wednesday Warnings

The final bout of 2024 matched the Bodies of Water against the Wednesday Warnings, with the Warnings hoping to improve to 2-0. Sintripetal Force led off the bout with a 2-0 jam for the Warnings, then Krypta Night secured lead jammer for the Bodies but was held scoreless. Lexi-Trudy scored 6 for the Warnings in the following jam before Sintripetal Force added 4 with a short apex jump in the next, taking the Warnings’ lead to 12-0.

In the next jam, Chippa Tooth of the Bodies was the first jammer to escape the pack, but she was not declared lead jammer and instead penalized. The Bodies’ defense held firm, not allowing Bri Zuss to get through during the power jam, and she eventually passed the star to Wasp. After a full 2-minute jam, Wasp and Chippa Tooth each scored 4 points, putting the Bodies on the board for the first time. The two teams traded 8-0 jams after that, as Lexi-Trudy briefly brought the Warnings’ lead up to 20 before Ginger Snap took it back down to 12. Fanny Smack’s 2 points for the Bodies in the next jam then made the score 24-14.

A close jammer race followed, as Chippa Tooth secured lead but was forced to call off the jam scoreless with Lexi-Trudy hot on her heels. Krypta Night then scored 1 point, cutting the Bodies’ deficit to single digits for the first time in 7 jams. Trying to continue clawing back, Ginger Snap secured lead jammer in the next jam, but she was eventually penalized, giving the Warnings a power jam. Bri Zuss struggled to get through, so she passed the star to Wasp for the second time of the night. After 2 minutes, Ginger Snap scored 8 points while Wasp had 3, Wasp missing out on a fourth because the jammer helmet cover fell off her helmet.

With their lead whittled down to 4, the Wednesday Warnings needed a spark, and they found one courtesy of Lexi-Trudy. Taking advantage of a Fanny Smack penalty, she scored 18 points to extend the lead to a much more breathable 22. Sintripetal Force added 2 more in the next jam, but she was penalized at the end, giving Ginger Snap a power start. Aided by another Sintripetal Force penalty during the jam, Ginger Snap scored 11 to cut the Bodies’ deficit to 47-34.

Bri Zuss secured lead for the Warnings in the next jam, but she later lost it after committing a penalty. By the time the Bodies got the power jam, Anne t. fascism had received a star pass, and she scored 3 points. However, Bri Zuss scored 6, extending the Warnings’ lead to 16 points. Fanny Smack scored 4 for the Bodies in the next jam, but Lexi-Trudy managed to score 2 in the same jam. The next jam was hard-fought, as it took Sintripetal Force 1:15 to become lead jammer before securing a 4-0 jam. In the next jam – the last of the half – Bri Zuss outscored Krypta Night 8-4 despite taking a penalty, leaving the halftime score at 67-45 in favor of the Warnings.

Hoping to jumpstart a second-half comeback, Chippa Tooth opened the half with a 4-0 jam. In the following jam, it took over a minute before Krypta Night appeared to become lead jammer, but she was penalized, giving the Warnings a power jam. Despite the opportunity, the jam ended scoreless for both teams. Lexi-Trudy followed with a 7-0 jam where HypnoThighz was penalized after receiving a star pass, giving Sintripetal Force a power start to the next jam. She erupted for 15 points, suddenly bringing the Warnings to a commanding 40-point lead.

A 4-0 jam for Bri Zuss and a 2-0 jam for Lexi-Trudy followed, and the Warnings had gotten into a groove. Though a tight jammer race forced Sintripetal Force to call off the next jam without scoring, Bri Zuss followed by scoring 12 points, putting the Warnings over the century mark. 10 points for Ginger Snap in the same jam meant the score stood at 107-59. Lexi-Trudy and Fanny Smack each scored 4 in the next jam, then a 4-0 jam for Chippa Tooth left the score at 111-67.

Bri Zuss jumped along the inside of the track to escape the back of the pack and secure lead in the next jam, and although she was held scoreless, the jam continued to drain the clock. A 2-0 jam courtesy of Lexi-Trudy followed, then Sintripetal Force snuck along the outside to avoid getting knocked out of bounds en route to a 12-0 jam. The Warnings’ lead extended to 125-67. Chippa Tooth blazed out of the pack ahead of Bri Zuss in the next jam, but a fast pack allowed Bri Zuss to catch up and force Chippa Tooth to call off the jam without scoring.

Krypta Night secured a quick lead in the following jam, scoring 3 points, but Lexi-Trudy still managed to score 2. Sintripetal Force came back with a 4-0 jam, giving the Warnings a 61-point advantage. Fanny Smack followed with an 11-3 jam that ended with under 30 seconds left in the bout, and it appeared as if the game would end between jams. However, the Bodies called a timeout with 5 seconds left, needing to make up a 53-point difference. Although Chippa Tooth scored 12 to Lexi-Trudy’s 4, she called off the jam, giving the Warnings a 138-93 victory. The result sets up a winner-take-all bout for the #1 seed between the Warnings and the Roller Vortex in January, while the Bodies look for their first win against the also-winless Maul Rats in a rematch of last year’s championship bout.
