Seeing as she doesn’t talk much, Minnie has graciously allowed me to say a few words about her. If I get it wrong, she will shake her tiny white fist at me.

Minnie Sorta-Nice, aka Minnie, is an adorable, mischievous little sprite. She is a fun-loving trouble maker that booty shakes and high kicks straight into the hearts of even the most unemotional, unfeeling, fun-haters around. She smiles as she taunts the refs, she gets the crowds going, and she gives out enough free hugs to fill all 10,000 lakes.

Minnie is a fan of everything Minnesotan: foods on a stick, craft beer, marriage equality (she is a blue state after all…), and all the local teams. But she especially loves cheering for her favorite team, the Minnesota RollerGirls All-Stars! She really loves the Aqua-Man Army, meeting fans, and making new friends. Heck, she even likes the kiddos; especially when she makes some of them cry! She can be kind of a jerk, but her bright eyes and winning smile always make everything OK. She is the squishy, cute, enthusiastic personification of Minnesota-passive-agressive!

August will be Minnie’s second anniversary as the mascot for the MNRG All-Stars. In this short period, she has made fans all over the country. Traveling can be hard, but she enjoys cuddling with skaters in the car and on buses, which is far more comfortable than how she travels when flying… as carry-on luggage…

I asked Minnie what she does before bouts… she grabbed a boom box, popped in a cassette, and cranked up the volume. Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” played as she shuffled and shimmied. She did a little stretching and had a snack (Surly Furious), then she showed me her glitter collection that she uses to make signs. On bout days she likes to hug and high five every single All-Star during their warm ups. She loves being an athletic supporter! Her favorite is when she gets to skate, even if some people like to try to knock her down. Her favorite venue is, of course, the Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium because she can go up to the balcony to cheer and take selfies with the best fans ever!

My favorite thing about Minnie is when she taunts people by hugging them, so they have to hug her back. It’s also awesome to see people from all over the country post pictures of themselves with her.
