Abbie Mischief #318

If there ever was a rollergirl who seems to have done it all, it’s Abbie Mischief. And “seems” is modest – she has done it all! She’s a human sponge when it comes to the Minnesota RollerGirls; in her seven years involved in the league, she’s got a long rap sheet…watch out, here it comes: participation in various committees on the league, including: Teams and Training Committee, Events/Charity Committee, Production Committee and most currently, a trainer for the DebuTaunts; an All-Star rollergirl for three seasons; she’s in her second season as a home team captain for the Rockits; and she has also been a captain of theme team bouts*.abbie_mischief__md

Mischief got onto the roller derby scene in Season 3 and has been a part of the Minnesota RollerGirls’ evolution. She was around for penalty wheels, the change from home-made “boutfits” to the athletic jerseys you see today, and the drive of competition that amps up every season as new rookies come on board. She’s also been a part of many rules changes implemented by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), which is the governing body of flat track roller derby that the Minnesota RollerGirls participates in. All these changes have been incredible and have made derby more competitive and brought the girls closer, and Mischief swears it.

Being a long-time veteran skater, Mischief carries all these great stories and experiences that rookies and most of the other rollergirls don’t have and would die for. Sure, her story of tryouts and “Holy…! I made the league…What have I got myself into?!” runs true for most skaters. But not many people can say their first home team travel game was to New Mexico to play the Munecas Muertas in the craziest venue with a ten-foot-wide track ringed by steel poles and two inch drops. Or being on the All-Stars when the Minnesota RollerGirls blew the national derby scene’s mind by taking the No. 2 spot at the regional tournament. There’s also other great personal moments like jamming against her husband when he was involved with the Twin Cities Terrors, and naturally won the jam.

Some people may not realize how much time, effort, physical and mental strength go into being a skater for the Minnesota RollerGirls. Mischief is constantly putting in her all, and she gets it all back. A perfect example of her attitude? “In my fifth season during a bout, I broke my leg. I was off skates for about five months. I realized that a broken leg was NOT going to stop me from getting right back into what I love to do.” Her leadership shines throughout the league and she continues to be one incredible skater!

*Mischief was a theme team captain again this season!
